Why Condensate Drains Are Essential for Air System Efficiency

If only life were as simple as installing an air compressor and switching it on to achieve your goals. Unfortunately, every Compressed Air system is only as good as its weakest link. If you don't back up a quality, energy efficient air compressor with a great condensate drains to avoid air leakages and pressure losses, and then your entire system’s energy efficiency will fail.

This is catastrophic for all manufactures and other sensitive industries such as medicine, food, and pharmaceutical production.

Let's take a quick look at why you need a great condensate drain to keep your system running cleanly and safely.

What is a Condensate Drain?

Whenever air is present, so is condensate. Air naturally contains particles of water and other fluids. When that air encounters temperature and/or pressure differences, those particles coalesce into droplets of fluid.

If you are using an air compressor, you will produce more of this condensate inside the system. When the air particles are pushed closer together, this creates droplets of water as the air cools down, which then gather on equipment and, in some cases, can even enter into the air distribution system in the factory.

A condensate drain is a piece of equipment that removes this fluid automatically from equipment and the compressed air system. Most high quality condensate designs involve a storage chamber or reservoir which, when filled up, activates a drainage channel, disposing of the condensate without any air pressure loss to the overall system.

These drainage systems are used in tandem with:

  • Aftercoolers
  • Intercoolers
  • Line Filters
  • Air Dryers
  • Air Receivers

BOGE's condensate drains are designed from the ground up to be compatible with all of our air compressors and other accessories.

Why You Need a Condensate Drain

Condensate drains provide three essential functions:

  1. Damage Avoidance: By removing excess fluid from a system, this fluid cannot gather in the air compressor and its accessories. Water can be extremely corrosive over time, but, depending on how a compressor is being used, other more corrosive fluids can be present which will damage equipment, sometimes beyond repair.

  1. Contamination Avoidance: A good condensate drain will gather water, oil, and other fluids efficiently. If this does not occur, these fluids won't just damage equipment, but they will spill over into the system. Furthermore, excess particulate matter will gather at an accelerated rate, clogging up filtration to a point where it ceases to function. Once your filtration fails, you cannot produce clean air.

  1. Safety: The safety of you, your staff, and your customers is of paramount importance. By avoiding the build up of condensation – along with the best filtration for your air compressor – you will ensure that produced air remains clean and safe.

The BOGE Compact Condensate Drain

BOGE Singapore is proud to offer the cutting-edge condensate drain models developed by the engineers at BOGE Kompressoren. Operated via a reliable electronic controller, our condensate drains automate the drainage process so that air compression continues unimpeded and without any costly stops for maintenance.

Alongside this, BOGE condensate drains are highly compact, making then ideal for almost any environment where space is a concern. With a robust aluminum housing, our condensate drains are built to last, and are especially manufactured for use in any climate, hot or cold.

Key features of the Compact Condensate Drain, include:

  • Corrosion resistant materials
  • No pressure loss while draining condensate, ensuring your system maintains top efficiency
  • Oil-free, producing no oil particulates
  • Stainless steel grid sieve designed for easy cleaning
  • Running for a staggering 2 million draining cycles – this is a condensate drain that lasts!
  • Our CCD 100 model includes LED fill level displays and alarms at no extra cost
  • The CCD 10 model produces a maximum compressor capacity of 10m3/min
  • Our CCD 100 model has a maximum compressor capacity of a staggering 100m3/min
  • Both models produce a maximum pressure of 16bar

Putting Efficiency and Safety at the Heart of Manufacturing

At BOGE, we pride ourselves in creating leading air compressor technologies to save our customers money, with no compromises when it comes to safety and efficiency. The BOGE CCD CCD 10 and CCD 100 are perfect examples of this philosophy.
